Ladakh is an exquisite landlocked region in Jammu and Kashmir, India. This region is nestled between the imposing mountain ranges of Karakoram and Himalayas. Ladakh is renowned as a prominent spot of Buddhist religion in India. It is also one of the most significant and outstanding Buddhist centres of religious teaching and spirituality. A horde of spiritual tourists from all over the blue planet comes to Ladakh every year in the quest for spirituality.
Other than the spiritual imperatives, Ladakh is well liked as a perfect spot for nature freaks and adrenaline junkies as well. Stunning valleys and elevated peaks sheeted with snow are also the prime attractions of this enticing region. This 05 Days and 04 Nights itinerary is an ideal tour to feel the spirituality and nature’s opulence possessed by Ladakh at the same time.
Duration: 04 Nights & 05 Days
Destinations: Leh – Hemis – Khardungla – Nubra Valley.
On arrival at Leh airport, our executive will be there to meet you and transfer you to your pre booked hotel/Guest house. Check in at the hotel/guest house for relax and acclimatisation. Note that it is necessary to get acclimatised at a high altitude. In the evening, you can visit the colour full market of Leh. An overnight stay in the hotel/guesthouse.
Today, we will proceed for the sightseeing tour of some ancient monasteries in Leh.
Shey Gompa : It is approximately 15 kms from Leh and used to be the summer palace of the kings of Ladakh. There are lots of Gompas and Stupas built around the palace. Shey palace was built in the beginning of 17th century AD by Deldan Namgyal. The major attraction of Shey Gompa is the 12m Shakyamuni Buddha statue located inside the Dresthang Gompa.
Thiksey Gompa: Nestled close to Shey, Thiksey Gompa is approximately 17 kms away from Leh. This monastery is regarded as one of the most beautiful monasteries in Ladakh and belongs to the Gelukspa order.
Hemis: It is approximately 45 kms south of Leh and one of the largest monasteries in Ladakh. Hemis monastery was founded in the early 17th century and belongs to the Drukpa order. The setting is perfect with the monastery cradled in a lovely valley, surrounded by streams and fronted by long Mani walls.
Later, return back to the hotel/guest house for an overnight stay.
In the morning after breakfast, we will drive to Nubra Valley. During the drive, we will pass through world’s highest motorable road at Khardung la Pass, which is said to be one of the highlights of any Leh and Ladakh tour.
Khardung la pass: The road journey to Nubra valley leads through Khardung La Pass (the highest motorable road in the world) 18,390 ft. It is around 39 Kms away from Leh. There are two checkpoints on the both sides of the pass. Khardung is the first village of Nubra valley at higher altitude than Diskit and other villages.
Nubra Valley: The Nubra means Ldumra (the valley of flowers). It is located in the north of Leh. The average height of the valley is about 10,000 ft. above the sea level. The major attractions of this area are Bactarian Camels (Shaggy double hump Camel) around sand dunes, Diskit & Samstanling monasteries and Khardung la Pass (18,380 feet.) above sea level.
On arrival at Nubra, check in to guest house/camp. Later in the afternoon, we will take you for a guided sightseeing tour of Nubra Valley. Tour includes a visit to various interesting places such as Diskit village, Diskit Gompa and Hundar village.
Diskit village: Diskit is the main village of headquarter of Nubra valley, which has a small market consisting of a row of shops and about 500 years old Gompa on the hilltop. Spectacular view of the valley can be seen from the monastery.
Diskit Gompa : Diskit Gompa was founded by Lama Sherab Zangpo of Stod in about 1420 AD during the reign of King Dragspa. About 100 monks are residing in the Gompa, which is a branch of Thiksey Monastery. The monastic festival called Gustor takes place on 20th and 21st days of the 12th month of Tibetan calendar.
Hundar village: Hundar is a beautiful village to stay with lot of trees and you will really enjoy your stay at Hundar. It has a small monastery and ruined fort above the village. The walk or Camel Safari (Double Hump bacterian camels) from Hundar to Diskit, through sand dunes for two hours is wonderful.
Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel/guest house in Nubra valley.
Today after breakfast, we will leave to visit Samstanling monastery and later drive back to Leh, while driving once again via Khardung la pass, the world highest motorable road. An overnight stay in Leh.
After breakfast in the morning, we will transfer you to Leh airport to catch the flight for onward destination.
